With growing market, Egypt welcomes to telecom Industry for two licenses for “triple-play” cable, telephone and internet services which it expects to have $1billion in new investment within Five years.
Government Says “The Licenses consortium will be allowed to build and maintain telecom network inside closed communities having maximum 5000 units and at least 50 units. Residential compound will be also served across the country, Sinai Resort City of Sharm al-Sheikh and Egypt’s Mediterranean coast.”
However, only two consortiums are available for Triple-play services under two licenses. For two available, one is Orascom Telecom units with mobinil and other one Vodafone with Tele Tech.
With 2009 surveys, Egypt had 13.3% penetration rate over 1031 million fixed subscribers. Reached data come to figure with 6.4% between 2002 and2008 within 5 past years. With gradual growth 6.4%, it has lost 13% decline in their subscribers in 2009.
Under digit of total subscribers, 76.0% subscribers are belonged to urban areas and 24.0% were from rural areas. At the end of 2010, total subscribers will be 10.37% million subscribers, with local switching exchanges 14.4 million along with 92,600 in waiting list.
